The Tri-motor began in the 1920's as a passenger and cargo plane.  The airplane was well design and reliable, also noted for it's sturdiness and ease of repair, the Tri-motor was rugged and well suited for operations in "distant places".  The Tri-motor gave sterling service well into the 30's and it is reported that the Tri-motor was even to be found in service during the Second World War, one rumored to have been lost to enemy action in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
