The mon (family crest) of the celebrated Honda Tadakatsu. Honda with his great antlered helmet was one of Tokugawa's most trusted commanders, noted for his bravery and loyal to a fault. Honda fought with great distinction in many of Tokugawa's battles. It is even rumored of the great respect that other samurai held for him, during the Komaki-Nagakute campaign Toyotomi Hideyoshi could have annihilated a much much smaller Tokugawa force led by Honda Tadakatsu but even though they were enemies Hideyoshi did not engage Honda just to destroy an important enemy officer because he was at a disadvantage.
Almost all mon can be found to be used by many different samurai throughout the centuries.
