The Polikarpov Po-2, first flown in 1928 is said to have been in production well into the 1950's. The Po-2 was a reliable and easily maintained aircraft that did not even need an airfield, the Po-2 could be flown, maintained, and repaired quite easily in the field. Many nations apart from the Russians have used the Po-2 even being in service with the North Koreans during the Korean War. One of the most legendary exploits of the Po-2 was with the Nachthexen or (Night witches) a WWII Russian unit whose compliment was made up entirely of women.
