The mon (family crest) of Date Masamune. Date Masamune The "One-eyed Dragon" famous for his eye patch and crescent-moon helmet. The Date held territory in the northern province of Mutsu. Masamune was one of the great survivors of samurai history, after being appointed head of the family by his father, he witnessed his father's murder, survived a succession attempt on his life by his mother and younger brother, and won some battles that seemed sure to be the end of the Date. Eventually he joined the overwhelming power of Toyotomi and then siding with Tokugawa during Sekigahara.
Almost all mon can be found to be used by many different samurai throughout the centuries.
